Concept MATTIE’
Within our concept we got to kinds
of games. The first one is meant for wheelchair users and the second one is
used for elderly who are who can walk with or without support and for instant
elderly with dementia.
When we watched the elderly people
play on the mat we discovered that a lot of elderly people need support while
playing on the mat. So we decided to make a frame for Matti and add this to our
concept. The frame is use-able in two ways. As a support for elderly who want
something to hold on to. In the other wat you can use it as a table for people
who can’t walk at all so they can use it with their hands.
You can also make the bars higher or
lower or move them to the left and the right so everybody can have the perfect
frame.
Game 1 (for wheelchair users)
For game 1 the frame is set up as a
table and can be played by 4 people at each side of the mat. In the middle of matti
a color appears and they need to press the right color which is in front of
them.
The goal of the game is to be the
first one to touch the right color and score the most points, however it also
can be played without competition and just for fun.
Positive feedback:
When matti is plugged in to a screen
or computer the game can give the players compliments for how they are playing.
The screen shows the score and supports everyone to keep doing their best.
so for instant in these cases:
-
When
someone is last and can’t keep up the computer says something like “don’t give
up keep trying!”
-
when
someone comes close to the player who is first the computer would say something
along the lines of “ You are almost there keep up the paste!”
and more things along those lines to
keep supporting them so they won’t get bored that easily
There will also be a signal when a
person got higher place and in between the computer will say who is first,
second, third and fourth so they don’t have to look at the screen at all
Game 2 (for people who can still
walk with or without support)
with game 2 the frame is used as a support
for elderly who can’t stand that well on her own or the frame isn’t used at all
for the people who don’t need them. at first four arrows are shown on the mat
and one of the arrows show up on the screen and it’s up to the person to step
on the right arrow when this is done correct a few time they will level-up and this
will go along these lines
level 1: normal setting with slow
tempo
level 2: the tempo becomes quicker
level 3: One arrow disappears, when
the arrow shows up on the screen the elderly need the remember at this moment
where this arrow was.
level 4: another arrow disappears (this
happens until all the arrows are gone)
level 5: a new color will show up and
this will repeat itself
level 6: after every color disappeared
it will become faster and faster.
in between the elderly will be
coached by the screen with positive sounds and by saying things. These lines
will be somewhat like the ones at the other game. When you give them positive feedback
they will be less likely to quit the game because they find it to difficult.
While playing the game the computer
will keep information about the person, so how fast they did or how far they
came and after a while of playing the game someone can see how much someone has
grown. So the game isn’t only fun but also can gather a lot of information.
